Our employment and labour practice is recognised for its depth of experience and its ability to deliver commercially focused, strategic advice across the full spectrum of workplace matters in Pakistan. We act for a diverse client base, including public sector entities, financial institutions, multinational corporations and large domestic conglomerates, advising on complex and often business-critical employment issues in a rapidly evolving regulatory landscape.

We have advised leading global and regional employers, including McDonald’s, China Three Gorges and Pizza Hut, on the design and implementation of comprehensive employment frameworks. Our work in this area includes drafting and harmonising workplace policies addressing wages, leave entitlements, maternity benefits, occupational health and safety, and employee benefit structures such as gratuity, provident funds and pensions, ensuring full compliance with applicable law while aligning with international best practices.

We are also regularly engaged on sensitive industrial relations matters, including disputes involving trade unions and collective bargaining agents, particularly in highly regulated sectors and essential services. Our experience extends to advising on strikes, lock-outs and other disruptions that have significant operational and reputational implications, as well as on broader workforce restructuring, organisational realignment and the calibration of executive compensation and incentive structures.

Our practice is further distinguished by its longstanding involvement in public sector employment. For more than three decades, we have advised government bodies, statutory authorities and public institutions on the development of employment frameworks, service rules and regulatory structures. We have extensive experience representing clients before administrative tribunals and superior courts in matters involving civil servants and contractual public sector employees, including those recruited through the Federal Public Service Commission and the Punjab Public Service Commission. Our employment and service lawyers regularly appear before specialised forums such as the Federal Service Tribunal (FST) and Punjab Service Tribunal (PST), bringing deep institutional knowledge and a practical understanding of public sector employment disputes.

Some of our key work highlights include advising:

  • China Three Gorges Investment Company in drafting its internal HR policy in light of the applicable labour laws of Pakistan
  • SME Bank on structuring employment matters after proposed acquisition by Saudi Pak Agriculture and Investment Company
  • Pizza Hut with respect to the payment of gratuity and other social security benefits to its employees
