Sarjeel Mowahid heads the Corporate and Commercial practice of the firm and sits as an arbitrator in construction and energy disputes. For nearly two decades he has structured, negotiated and, when they fail, litigated the contracts behind Pakistan’s dams, power plants, pipelines and cities, and he brings to every dispute the perspective of someone who has drafted and negotiated the contracts at its heart. His clients include China Three Gorges, China Gezhouba Group Company, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, Porsche, Habib Bank Limited, Allied Bank, Pakistan Microfinance Investment Company and Samsons Group.
Sarjeel sat as Sole Arbitrator, appointed by agreement of both parties, in a dispute between a six member international engineering consultancy joint venture and a Pakistani statutory authority arising from an 800 MW hydropower project, and rendered a reasoned Final Award in 2026. He sits on the CIICA Panel of Arbitrators for the term 2026 to 2029, is included in the LCIA Database of Arbitrators, and served on the Commission on Arbitration and ADR of ICC Pakistan from 2020 to 2024. As counsel he acts for contractors, employers, power producers and state owned enterprises on FIDIC claims, Engineer’s determinations, DAAB referrals, tariff disputes and arbitrations under the Arbitration Act 1940.
His project work spans nuclear, hydropower, thermal, gas transmission, irrigation and urban development. He represented the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission in Beijing in negotiating the financing documents for the K2 and K3 units of the Karachi Nuclear Power Plant with the Export Import Bank of China, and served as General Investment and Legal Counsel to China Three Gorges in Pakistan from 2018 to 2020. He also advises on corporate finance, restructuring, banking and finance, foreign direct investment, mergers and acquisitions, public procurement, public private partnerships, data protection and labour law.
He holds an LL.M. in Commercial Law from UMT and an LL.B. (Hons) from the University of London. Prior to joining ABS & Co. in 2016, Sarjeel worked as Senior Legal Counsel at Coca Cola Beverages Pakistan and as Unit Head (Legal) at MCB Bank, and before that in private practice at Cornelius, Lane & Mufti, Raja Mohammed Akram & Co. and RIAA Barker Gillette. He is an alumnus of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program.
“Sarjeel Mowahid exceeded the expectations of many clients with his innovative ideas and tries to resolve the issues amicably between the parties through dispute resolution.”
