The Board of Directors of WWF-Pakistan has elected Mr. Soofi, Founding Partner of ABS & Co and a distinguished advocate of the Supreme Court, to lead the organisation. He succeeds Khalid Mahmood, CEO of Getz Pharma (Pvt) Ltd, who served as president from June 2011 to April 2015. Under Mr. Mahmood’s stewardship, WWF-Pakistan advanced initiatives in climate change mitigation, alternate livelihood programs, and marine and coastal ecosystem protection.
Hammad Naqi Khan, Director General of WWF-Pakistan, expressed gratitude to Mr. Mahmood for his dedicated service and welcomed Mr. Soofi, noting the organisation would benefit from his expertise, vision, and longstanding commitment to environmental causes.
Mr. Soofi brings over a decade of engagement with WWF-Pakistan, having twice served on its Board. His legal practice and firm have supported the organisation pro bono in landmark environmental cases, including the Murree forest case, the new Murree case, and the protection of Surla Wildlife Sanctuary near Chakwal.
A seasoned international law expert, Mr. Soofi holds an LLM from the University of Cambridge, UK, and is the founding president of the Research Society of International Law. He previously served as Federal Minister for Law, Justice, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights in the 2013 caretaker government and is a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council Advisory Committee as well as the OIC Eminent Persons Council.
Mr. Soofi has consistently championed environmental conservation and continues to advise provincial governments on implementing international climate change and environmental conventions.
Born on 25 November 1962, Mr. Soofi is an alumnus of St. Anthony’s High School, Lahore, and Government College, Lahore, where he graduated with the Roll of Honour.
