Maham Naweed is an Of Counsel at the firm’s Islamabad office and is part of the Public International Law Practice. She is a dual qualified lawyer in Pakistan and New York and also serves as the Chair for International Law at the Islamabad Policy Research Institute (IPRI).
Maham is well-versed with all facets of public international law, having worked at both private law firms and the federal government of Pakistan. She has excellent command over intricacies of international law and the cross section of issues with governance and national security.
Previously, she was working as a Consultant at the Office of the Attorney-General for Pakistan, in the International Disputes Unit. She has been a part of the team that has represented the federal government in international legal cases and arbitrations. She has also represented the federal government in national security issues with India, including the Indus Waters Dispute.
Maham has trained at the Paris office of the international law firm, Shearman & Sterling LLP in the public international law and international arbitration group.
She has taught, “Indus Water: Conflict and Cooperation in South Asia”, as an Adjunct Professor at the Lahore University of Management Sciences and the Institute of Law.
Owing to her expertise, Maham is frequently invited to speak at conferences and seminars on issues of international law, public policy and the implementation of international law in Pakistan. She frequently writes in leading national newspapers such as Express Tribune and the News.
