Ms. Fatima Midrar completed her LL.B. (Hons.) from the University of London International Programmes in the year 2019, with three distinctions, one of which was the highest in Pakistan, for which a Certificate of Academic Achievement was issued by the University of London.

Ms. Midrar has been practicing since 2019 and has an experience of around 3 years.

The main area of litigation handled by Ms. Midrar relates to contractual matters, which include construction, procurement, surety bonds, etc., and service matters; which are quantified into over 30 cases.  She has further been involved in litigation regarding arbitration laws, to state specifically, Ms. Midrar’s research and arguments have been instrumental in obtaining relief whereby the Courts have upheld the arbitration clauses, wherein the arbitrator is the competent authority of the department involved. This has resulted in the commencement of arbitration proceedings before various departments. And Ms. Midrar has assisted the said department(s) in carrying out the arbitration proceedings, by devising SOPs in light of the Arbitration Act, of 1940.

In addition to litigation, Ms. Midrar has been engaged in transactional work, the gamut of which covers an array of different laws. The said work includes drafting of policies of statutory bodies, terms of reference of various committees in a company established under the laws of Pakistan; drafting of contracts/ agreements regarding the sale/purchase of land, financial transactions carried out between customers and banks, agency agreements, etc. Furthermore, she has provided over 80 legal opinions on various law points, ranging from microfinance banking, the validity of electronic transactions, the regime of FATF/AML, labor laws, land acquisition, information laws, and other such areas. While further having worked in the energy sector with entities such as NTDC and AEDB.

Moreover, Ms. Midrar has been involved in litigation and has provided legal opinions with regard to taxation laws, specifically in relation to a listed public limited company working in the tobacco industry; and her work in the area of taxation has been essential in terms of identifying the prevalent and grave illegality on part of the Federal Board of Revenue, whereby the Federal Board of Revenue has issued show cause notices of overlapping tax periods on similar issues leading to double jeopardy.

Owing to such an active engagement, Ms. Fatima Midrar has the experience of appearing before different quasi-judicial bodies, such as the Pakistan Information Commission, the Ombudsman Offices, Commissioner (Appeals) Inland Revenue, Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue, etc., alongside appearing before the traditional judicial courts of law.

Aside from practicing as an Advocate, Fatima Midrar has further worked at the Federal Ombudsman Secretariat for Protection Against Harassment at Workplace in the year 2019.
