PM appoints Senior Partner as Special Envoy

The Prime Minister of Pakistan has appointed Senior Partner of the law firm, Ahmer Bilal Soofi, as a Special Envoy in respect of drafting and negotiating an international convention on protection and defamation of religions. The Prime Minister made this announcement during his public address on 20 November 2018 in Islamabad. Mr. Soofi’s mandate as an envoy includes developing consensus and preparing a draft of the multilateral instrument that would provide a mechanism to manage violence that is undertaken in the name of religions.

The Prime Minister has specifically required that such an instrument should ensure protection for all religions including their symbols, books and holy personalities. In this regard, a special secretariat has been established within the firm that would continue to render secretariat support for the mandate of the envoy. As a token of national service, Mr. Soofi is undertaking this assignment in an honorary capacity.

He will continue to serve as the Senior and Managing Partner of the law firm.
