It gives us a sense of great pride to announce that our Founding Partner, Mr. Ahmer Bilal Soofi, has been appointed as co-agent to represent the Islamic Republic of Pakistan before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in Obligations concerning Negotiations relating to Cessation of the Nuclear Arms Race and to Nuclear Disarmament (Republic of Marshall Islands v Pakistan).
On April 24, 2014, the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) filed applications in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to hold the nine nuclear-armed states accountable for alleged violations of international law with respect to their nuclear disarmament obligations under the 1968 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and customary international law. The nine states possessing nuclear arsenals are the United States, United Kingdom, France, Russia, China, India, Pakistan, North Korea, and Israel.
Mr. Soofi is only the second Pakistani in the country’s history to have represented Pakistan before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
